Welcome to ARVOUK
the Association of Retirement
Village Operators UK

Growing with the times

ARVOUK is the Association of Retirement Village Operators UK and was established in September, 2008.

The association was formed to increase the professionalism in the industry and promote understanding of the concept – one that is radically different from care homes.

What is a Retirement Village?

Retirement Villages integrate three core components, all provided by long-term, owners and managers – our members.

The 3 core components of a UK Retirement
Village

1. Housing

A property which allows people to enjoy the comfort, rights, security and privacy that comes with owning their own home and having "their own front door".

2. Community

Each villages makes provision for its community by providing shared facilities such as swimming pools and restaurants.

3. Access to care

Access to flexible care and support tailored to personal and changing needs, rather than rigid, traditional models.

Soon 25 percent of
the population will be
over retirement age

Ageing has changed

For the first time in history, there are now more people over the age of 65 than of school age in the UK - soon 25 percent of the population will be over retirement age.

This demographic shift means traditional stereotypes of what it means to be old are outdated and "baby-boomers" are already reshaping the notion of retirement.

It's not just how long you live but how you live that matters.

ARVOUK: A timely intervention

ARVOUK will help to remove confusion and ambiguity from an industry that suffers from blurred boundaries and a lack of definition.

It will establish and promote a Professional Code of Practice, a quality threshold to act as a stamp of excellence for customers.
